How Long Is RetroSpace? Playtime and Replay Value
The official numbers
The developers have given two figures, and they do not quite match:
| Source | Standard run | Thorough run |
|---|---|---|
| Developers’ Steam FAQ (“THE BIG RETROSPACE FAQ”) | 10 to 15 hours | ”two or even three times that amount” |
| Developer forum reply (Bánk B. Varga) | 15 to 20 hours | ”2-3 times as much”, depending on play style and difficulty |
We list both rather than pick one. A stealthy, explore-everything run on 1999 mode will land at the long end; a run on Story mode that follows objectives will land at the short end.
What early players report
The first full-game recordings show how much ground the opening covers: ProRogueBear’s two-hour session goes from the stasis chambers through the Nexus Gardens and into the medical section, and Duuro Plays published a five-part PS5 playthrough, about 11 hours of video, before launch. One r/ImmersiveSim post on launch week was titled after 40 hours with the game, which fits the developers’ completionist estimate.
What adds length
- Exploration: secret paths, vents, upgrade blueprints and collectible pin-up cards.
- Survivors: six recruitable survivors, each with an optional mission line; Hero we deserve asks for all of them.
- Collectibles: Radio Ga Ga needs every audio log.
- Multiple endings: at least a good and a bad ending, and some survivor quests change which one you get.
How many runs for 100%?
At least two. A pacifist run (Clean hands) cannot also earn the kill-count achievements, and a no-detection run (Never there) cannot trigger 50 alarms. The two endings and the two hard difficulty achievements may add more. The developers have also floated a New Game+ or extra mutators in their FAQ replies, which would change this if it arrives. Plan your runs with the achievement planner.
