RetroSpace Demo Guide: Codes, Route and What Changed

The RetroSpace demo launched on June 11, 2026 for Steam Next Fest and stayed available up to the full release. It is a separate Steam app, “RetroSpace Demo” (app 2783450).

Where the demo starts

The demo drops you into the medical section, which in the full game comes after the stasis chambers and the Nexus Gardens. A developer explained why the opening felt confusing: “In the full game, the tutorial is slow and gradual. By the time you reach the point where the demo begins, you’ll already know the basics.” It runs on the medium difficulty only.

Demo route and codes

  1. Reception: an email gives the ICU code 0451.
  2. Turrets: clean the stain to read 2177, then flip the turrets on the control panel.
  3. Professor Hammond’s office: two routes, per a developer. The nurse rooms have a vent leading down to storage; or carry boxes in from the surgical ward, past the retinal scanner.
  4. Hammond’s computer: the password is 1234 (Rachel Rosen’s note). Use it on the same computer.
  5. The jump: lifting the quarantine shifts the section into its other time period.
  6. Morgue: code 2236, written in blood at the end of a curved hallway, or the hidden route from the storage room behind the turret (look up, stack a box).
  7. Janitors’ Haven: reached through the morgue.

The full list is on the door code page, and the walkthrough covers the same area in the full game.

Things the demo leaves out

A developer said not every system made it into the demo. The camera for scanning enemies comes later. Batteries can power items, be recharged with electricity and explode when full. Scrap buys tech gadgets and weapon upgrades, DNA upgrades Mutamods. The flare gun and cleaner get three ammo types each in the full game.

What the two demo updates changed

  • June 18 (build 5855): no item loss on death at medium; bodies vanish less; black screen fixed; alcoholism and bad manners errors toned down; stronger weapons; brighter flashlight; easier mantling; a new shortcut in the second half; shorter loads.
  • July 10: protected quicksaves; fixed interaction UI; smoother box stacking; charged wrench attack; loaded guns; quieter audio; brighter dark areas; turret damage smoke; enemy state marker toggle; reworked cloning errors.

Full notes are in the build history.

Does the demo carry over?

No. The developers’ FAQ: “your demo progress will not transfer over to the full game”. The full game opens in a different area.
