RetroSpace Weapons: All 10 Guns and What They Do
Weapon list
| Weapon | Type | Special | What we know | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Power Wrench | Melee | Hold right mouse to charge a heavy swing | A developer says the charged hit has a 4x damage multiplier and kills an unalerted Mothmanaut outright when it lands on the head. Range was extended in the July demo patch so you can reach small headcreeps while standing. | Developer forum reply; 2nd Major Demo Update (Jul 10, 2026) |
| HyperBroom | Melee | Not shown yet | Only known from the "Warren Wrenchman" achievement: finish the game using only the Power wrench and the HyperBroom. | Xbox achievement list |
| Pistol (Wolverine W3) | Sidearm | Slow bullets that ricochet off walls | The item text calls it the Wolverine W3, a 12-round personal-protection pistol. It is the weak starter gun on purpose, but the developers call the ricochet "a really effective strategic weapon". Fire rate was raised in the July demo patch. Pistol ammo is scarce early. | Developer deep-dive video (Sep 24, 2026); DeepSpaceMatt full-game playthrough |
| Revolver (magnum) | Sidearm | Heavy single shots | Demo players used it on the morgue boar, which one player said took about one and a half full reloads. | Duuro review; Steam forum "Key codes" |
| Shotgun | Close range | Spread damage | Rate of fire was raised slightly in the July demo patch. Explosions and close blasts can gib enemies, and gibbed bodies cannot be looted. | 2nd Major Demo Update |
| SMG | Automatic | Sustained fire | Unlocked later as the station opens up. | Duuro review (Sep 30, 2026) |
| Gatling gun | Heavy | High fire rate | One of the late additions to your arsenal, according to the PS5 review. | Duuro review |
| Bradbury beam gun | Energy | Sets enemies on fire | Can be upgraded into a ray gun. Duuro found that flower-headed mutants drop in two or three ray gun shots. | Developer deep-dive video; Duuro review |
| Flare gun | Utility | Light and signal flares | The developers confirmed three ammo types. The in-game description says it fires off a signal. Useful in the darker sections. | Developer forum reply; Splattercat demo video |
| Cleaner spray | Utility | Right mouse leaves a puddle | Cleans blood (two achievements count splatters) and reveals codes written under stains. Spray water near an electrical box or conduit, then hit the box to electrocute whoever stands in the puddle. Three ammo types are confirmed. | Developer forum reply; Steam forum "Water + electricity"; Duuro review |

Ammo is the real limit
Reviewers agree on the shape of the first hours: pistol ammo runs out fast, so you end up closing the distance and swinging the wrench. The PS5 review at duuro.net describes the arsenal widening as you open more of the station, from revolver and shotgun to SMG, gatling gun and ray gun. Pick fights you can win with the environment first. Explosive barrels, steam pipes, electrical boxes and unstable energy cells all hurt enemies without costing a bullet, and the stealth guide covers how to avoid the fight altogether.
Upgrades, scrap and blueprints
Weapon upgrades cost scrap, which you get by scrapping junk items. They become available after one of the survivors joins you in the Janitors' Haven and sets up a workbench. Upgrade blueprints are among the hidden extras the developers point to when they talk about exploration, so check vents and side rooms. The full currency split is on the Mutamods and gadgets page.
Weapon achievements
- Warren Wrenchman (100G): finish the game using only the Power wrench and the HyperBroom.
- I'm all out of bubblegum (25G): upgrade all your weapons to the maximum.
- Better than therapy (25G): get 50 kills by headshots.
See the achievement planner for which of these fit in the same run.
Weapon questions
How many weapons are in RetroSpace?
The developers say there are 10 weapons and that eight of them can be upgraded several times. An October 2025 dev blog counted "10+1 weapons", and the HyperBroom only appears in an achievement, so the exact count of melee tools may differ by one.
How do you upgrade weapons in RetroSpace?
With scrap. A developer said scrap buys tech gadgets and weapon upgrades, and the upgrades open up once you recruit the right survivor to the Janitors' Haven. Upgrade blueprints are hidden around the station. "I'm all out of bubblegum" asks you to max every weapon.
What is the best weapon in RetroSpace?
Early on, the charged Power Wrench, because ammo is scarce and a charged hit to the head of an unaware Mothmanaut kills it. Later, match the gun to the enemy: scan enemies with the camera to see their weak points.
Can you finish RetroSpace without guns?
Yes. The developers say no kill is mandatory, and achievements exist for finishing with only the wrench and HyperBroom and for finishing without killing anyone.
