Graphics options in the game
A developer listed the video settings on the Steam forum: "graphical fidelity options, resolution options, render scale slider, vsync on and off, and FOV slider". There is no FPS slider, and only a few advanced toggles, because "this is a retro-styled game with retro sensibility". The team has said more in-depth graphics options are planned for later updates.
Stutter and frame drops
Demo players reported traversal stutter, especially when pointing the flashlight. The developers' advice while they investigated was to lower the render scale and resolution, try another quality preset and toggle V-Sync. The first major demo update improved performance and cut loading times. On PS5, the duuro.net review says the game "rarely reaches 60fps", so console players should expect the same rough edges until a patch.
Black screen after pressing Engage
Some demo players got a black screen when starting a new game. The developers traced it to a video codec issue and shipped a hotfix in the first
demo update. If it happens in the full game, send the Player log from AppData\LocalLow\The Wild Gentlemen\Retrospace to the developers
through the official Discord or the Steam bug forum.
Too dark?
The demo's darkness was the most common complaint. For the full game the developers raised general lighting so the darkest rooms show faint outlines, and made the flashlight "bigger and brighter" with less lag behind the camera. Darkness is still part of stealth, so do not max out your monitor brightness to compensate; switch lights off to hide instead (see the stealth guide).
PC questions
Can my PC run RetroSpace?
The minimum is a GTX 1050 Ti or RX 570, an i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600 and 16 GB of RAM, aiming at 1080p Low at about 30 FPS. The recommended GTX 1650 or RX 6600 with an i5-11600K or Ryzen 5 5600G targets 1080p High at 60 FPS. It is Windows only and needs DirectX 12.
Does RetroSpace have an FPS limit setting?
Not as a slider. A developer listed what is there: quality presets, resolution, a render scale slider, V-Sync on/off and a FOV slider. Use V-Sync or your GPU driver to cap frames.
How do I fix stutter in RetroSpace?
During the demo the developers suggested lowering render scale, resolution or the quality preset and toggling V-Sync while they worked on it; the first demo patch improved performance and loading times. Note the game runs on Unity, not Unreal.
How much storage does RetroSpace need?
The store page did not list it before launch, and a player asked about it on the forum. An SSD is recommended. We will add the size once the store or the installed build shows it.
